Scope of contract and services being provided
LabPLUS required a solution for their movement of specimens around the country, to and from LabPLUS in Auckland.
Initially they sent all samples individually by courier tickets and satchels but this required constant monitoring from them at the pickup and delivery ends and was extremely time consuming and not cost effective.
We needed to come up with a more effective way to move these samples.
SUB60’s role
SUB60 provided a consolidated solution for four labs nationally, who now send their samples overnight in a waterproof, self-sealing container which was tracked and managed by SUB60 and then the container is sent back the next night. Each container contains frozen and ambient samples.
The solution provides for two bins (minimum) in play from each lab with one arriving at LabPLUS and one leaving each day. Because of the reverse logistics of the revolving bins, LabPLUS has been able to make use of the returning bin to send back samples and documentation.
Each bin has a tracking label which is tracked/scanned upon pickup and delivery.
Results we achived
This dedicated solution meets and exceeds our SLA of 12 hour turnaround for all participating labs, generating significant cost savings and efficiencies.
Value we added
All specimens are now consolidated, making it much easier for LabPLUS staff to deal with one consignment of specimens in one bin for each major location.
By paying a set rate based on the minimum quantities previously sent, SUB60 was able to provide savings of $85,000 per year to LabPLUS.
We have also provided the DHBs with a dedicated DHB support team that is responsible for tracking and managing all items – generating savings for LabPLUS through reduced man hours.
This process has also enabled LabPLUS to significantly reduce damages and loss because of the consolidation.
